The Open Water course teaches you how to dive but it doesn't teach you about why you're diving and the fun things you can do as a certified diver. That's what the Advanced Open Water course is all about.
Most divers are always looking to learn and do more on their dives, and try out cool stuff such as deep and night dives. It's important that adventures such as these are fun BUT handled in a safe, controlled learning environment with your instructor for the first time - on the Advanced Open Water course.
The PADI Advanced Open Water course will give you:
-
additional dive skills and experiences
-
additional supervised dives
-
a few great reasons to keep on diving and a lot of great ways to keep your diving FUN!
-
credit towards your PADI Diver Specialty courses

- What does the course involve?
A lot less reading and studying than the Open Water course!
You'll make a total of 5 training dives ('Adventure' dives). You'll read the relevant chapter in the Adventures in Diving manual, complete and discuss the Knowledge Review with your Instructor and go through the dive and skills briefing for each. If you'd prefer to save time on vacation, you're very welcome to get your manual in advance and self study at home.
Of the 5 dives you'll make 2 required dives:
1. Deep Dive: It won't take long before curiosity will get the better of you and you'll be intrigued to find out what lies deeper down the reef into the blue... Find out - safely!
2. Navigation Dive: Are you confident finding your way around a dive site without an instructor or dive master leading the way? Let us show you some tricks...
The 3 remaining dives are elective - here are our recommendations:
- Peak Performance Buoyancy: Until you get your buoyancy right, you'll be wasting air, making shorter dives, potentially damaging the reef and upsetting other divers and generally not having as much fun as you could be. Let us help you out with some skills and weight adjustment. You'll be amazed at the difference...
- Naturalist: Learn about what you're seeing underwater. We guarantee it will enhance each dive you make. Remember: anyone can spot the big stuff; smart divers know how to spot the smaller stuff.
- Wreck: Learn how to dive wrecks safely by asessing them beforehand and spotting potential hazards. Very cool indeed...
Other popular choices include:
- Photography - you'll need your own camera
- Night - additional charge applies and is at your Instructor's discretion
Here are the Adventure dives we aren't able to offer:
- Ice ;o)
- Dry suit
- Drift
- Cavern
- Videography
All of these Adventure dives count towards the various PADI Specialty courses (some of which can be earnt in only 1 additional training dive) and the PADI Master Scuba Diver certification.

- What will I be certified to do?
Dive to a maximum of 100ft / 30 m and dive at more advanced dive sites.

- What can I do after my Advanced Open Water certification?
The world is your lobster... Being Advanced Open Water certified will open up a whole new set of exciting ways to continue your diving adventures.

Safety is a priority at The Dive Bus and our instructors reserve the right not to certify any students whom they believe are unsafe or do not meet the standards set out by PADI.
